English: Conversation Training - Upper Intermediate

Conversation, notes Theodore Zeldin in his book subtitled ‘How talk can change our lives’, is not only a tool for understanding each other. It is also about encounters in academic, professional and public life in which we and our interlocutors may change our perceptions, ourselves and the worlds we inhabit.

This conversation training is the second in a three-level conversation module. It is designed for students and staff who would like to improve their interactive oral skills in a cooperative atmosphere while at the same time exploring different perspectives on a range of contemporary issues on an upper-intermediate level. Focussed practice builds participants’ confidence and fluency and expands their vocabulary and language of formal and informal oral interaction.

Topics may include:
  • Work-related themes and skills
  • Media and news
  • Culture and leisure
  • Open discussions
  • The language of ethical discussion
  • Debating in science
This upper-intermediate training can be taken on its own or alongside other language courses. It prepares participants to proceed to "English: Conversation Training – Advanced".
