07.05.2025: Semester meeting of the Writing Network

All members of the University of Basel interested in promoting academic and scientific writing skills are invited to the next semester meeting of the Netzwerk Schreiben.

This informal network provides opportunities to connect with others and share knowledge and experiences. Once per semester, current research projects and best practices in writing pedagogy and writing support are presented and discussed.

Date and time: Wednesday, 7 May 2025; 12:15 PM to (latest) 2:00 PM

Location: Kollegienhaus, seminar room 103

Topics:

1. How are AI skills being integrated into writing support at the University of Basel?

In the winter semester of 2024, the Netzwerk Schreiben organized together with Digital Literacies the lecture series with practical course Academic Writing with Digital Tools: More than ChatGPT, DeepL and Co.

Beatrice Mall-Grob, Anja Matthiä, Stephan Meyer, and Mirjam Weder will report on the results of the lecture series and initiate a discussion on how to optimize the integration of AI competencies into writing support at the university in the future.

 2. Writing retreats

Writing retreats provide authors with a structured environment for focused work on their texts. Many different kind of writing retreats take place at the University of Basel: for example, using the Pomodoro technique; with thematic input from experts on the writing process or text features; with feedback on texts from writing coaches or peers; or with a combination of different approaches.

Organizers of writing retreats at the university will briefly report on the goals, formats, and results of their activities:

  • Anna-Lia Roberta Käslin-Tanduo – Office of the Dean of Research in the Faculty of Law
  • Tomas Kaqinari – Institute for Educational Sciences
  • Amancaya Formica – avuba.
