Academic Editing

The academic-editing service provides copyediting for English-language publications in all disciplines. In contrast to many online editing services, we offer flexible and personalized assistance to polish your texts and help you improve your writing competence. Doctoral students and postdocs of the University of Basel can receive one reimbursement of up to CHF 500.00 for academic editing

WHAT WE EDIT

Texts in English that are intended for publication or for research-related purposes, including:

  • abstracts
  • book chapters
  • book manuscripts
  • calls for papers
  • conference papers
  • course materials
  • grant applications
  • journal articles
  • presentation slides
  • research proposals
  • responses to peer review
  • websites

We also edit texts in English that were produced or translated with the help of artificial intelligence.

If you are a student and will not publish your text, please consider our proofreading service.

TIMELINES
  • Three working days for texts of up to 3’000 words
  • Five working days for texts between 3’000 and 10’000 words
  • Texts over 10’000 words are edited based on mutually agreed-upon timelines

We strive to meet your needs and deadlines. If you are looking for last-minute editing, please contact us and we will quickly determine if we have capacity.

COSTS

CHF 91.00 per hour (includes value-added tax) for editing and consultations. The total costs depend on the text. Generally, we can edit between 600 and 1’200 words in an hour.

Invoices are payable within thirty days of receipt. If you do not submit a text after signing the contract, we will charge a processing fee of CHF 100.00.

Doctoral students and postdocs of the University of Basel can receive one reimbursement of up to CHF 500.00 for academic editing.
